Deadpool is offered a place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by the Time Variance Authority, but instead recruits a Wolverine variant to save his universe from extinction. He later said that he regretted this statement after seeing the first Deadpool film and expressed to Ryan his interest in the two characters reuniting on the big screen. When asked why he chose to return for this film, he simply replied, “I just wanted to do it, and I felt it in my gut,” adding that he wanted to have the best time possible on a film set with Ryan Reynolds. Similarly, Reynolds had wanted to work alongside Jackman since the first Deadpool film and was saddened when he (Jackman) retired from the role.

Fox killed him

As Wolverine and Deadpool make their odyssey in the Honda Odyssey, the clock in the car jumps forward three hours during their conversation. Elliot Chipman: That’s Deadpool. Kevin Chipman: That’s Wolverine. Deadpool: You read that right.

Disney brought him back

An acquired taste, yes, but one you won’t regret watching

Wade Wilson, a witty and humorous man, has finally left his mercenary days behind him, but he’s going through a midlife crisis as he struggles to adjust to his otherwise ordinary civilian existence. After learning from a higher authority that his universe is in danger, Wade dons the katana-wielding, mouth-wielding mercenary’s garb for an important mission, which requires him to recruit the grumpy, forked-handed mutant Wolverine. Bloody, loud, irreverent, highly profane and unashamed, this film could not have been made with anything other than an “R” rating, as it gleefully revels in political incorrectness with innuendo, gratuitous violence, necrophilia and just about every other inappropriate thing imaginable , with gusto and glee, all accompanied by a hip soundtrack to boot. With shades of Marvel of old, it remains to be seen whether or not this series will become the elixir for the fading MCU, and while the plot is all over the place, it’s still fun to watch thanks to a slew of memorable characters, highlighted by the dynamic between Reynolds and Jackman who are the perfect duo in the kind of superhero movie where you’re constantly annoying someone.
